KUALA LUMPUR, January 23 – The Malaysian Media Council (MMC) has announced that its official complaints mechanism is now fully operational, providing journalists, media organisations, and the public a structured channel to address concerns about journalistic practices, media ethics, and news content.

The announcement follows the Council’s Board Meeting on 20–21 January 2026, where members aligned on strategic priorities, including strengthening media self-regulation, professional accountability, and institutional processes.

The mechanism, administered by the Code of Conduct and Complaints Committee, emphasises fair correction, mediation, and editorial accountability while safeguarding media freedom, with complaints accessible via email at [email protected] or through MMC’s website.

Datin Paduka Esther Ng, Chairperson of the Code of Conduct and Complaints Committee, highlighted that this system ensures a structured, transparent, and non-punitive approach to handling complaints, including high-profile cases such as the recent China Press issue.

MMC encourages differences of opinion and dissatisfaction with media reporting to be channelled through professional and ethical mechanisms, preventing public pressure or intimidation that could undermine journalists’ safety, media freedom, and public trust.

Member media organisations are also required to establish internal complaints systems, with MMC serving as the interim platform during this transition period.
