SHAH ALAM, January 27 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the controversial Bukit Tagar pig farming project has been temporarily shelved following public objections and concerns.
The state government will explore alternative locations and engage with livestock operators to clarify misunderstandings, while ensuring proper community engagement and environmental assessments are conducted before proceeding.
Amirudin clarified that the project was still at a preliminary stage, with no formal proposal submitted, and dismissed claims of a “mega” pig farm, noting it would cover only 20–30% of requirements to reorganise scattered farms for better hygiene and environmental management.
The decision follows feedback from the Sultan of Selangor and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, both of whom suggested putting the plan on hold or relocating it to a more suitable site.
