GEORGE TOWN, January 29 — The Penang State Government will host a Chinese New Year 2026 Open House led by Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow and his wife, YABhg. Puan Tan Lean Kee, in conjunction with the first day of the Lunar New Year.

The celebration will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (the first day of Lunar New Year), at the SPICE Arena, Penang International Sports Arena. The open house will be held from 2.00pm to 4.30pm and is open to the public.

Chow said this year’s celebration is especially meaningful as it is held on the first day of Chinese New Year, allowing Muslim friends to participate before the start of Ramadan, in line with the spirit of unity and inclusiveness under Malaysia MADANI.

The event is expected to be graced by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, and his consort. Visitors can look forward to festive delicacies and cultural performances, including lion dances, traditional songs, the 24 Festival Drums by SMJK Phor Tay, and a special performance by youths from the special needs community.

Chow said the annual open house symbolises harmony and shared celebrations among Penang’s diverse communities, and warmly invited all Penangites and visitors to usher in the Lunar New Year together in a joyful and meaningful gathering.
