GEORGE TOWN, January 29 — Several roads in Penang will be temporarily closed in conjunction with Thaipusam 2026 to facilitate religious processions and ensure public safety, authorities announced. Jalan Kebun Bunga will be closed from 12.01am on January 31 until 7.00am on February 2.
While access routes into Jalan Gottlieb will be closed from 7.00am on January 31 until 4.00am on February 2. Major road closures will also take place along the Thaipusam procession routes for both the Golden and Silver Chariots. Outbound processions will begin early morning on January 31.
Starting from Lebuh Queen (Golden Chariot) and Lebuh Penang (Silver Chariot). Passing through key roads including Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Victoria, Jalan C.Y. Choy, Jalan Magazine, Jalan Dato Keramat, Jalan Utama and ending at Jalan Kebun Bunga.
With expected completion in the early hours of February 1. Return processions are scheduled on February 2, with the Golden Chariot departing Jalan Kebun Bunga at 7.00pm towards Lebuh Queen and the Silver Chariot at 8.00pm towards Lebuh Penang.
Both expected to conclude by the morning of February 3. Motorists are advised to refer to route maps provided and use alternative roads to avoid traffic congestion during the festive period.
