SHAH ALAM, January 29 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed concern over the growing culture of slander and the spread of unverified allegations, particularly on social media, warning that such actions contradict Islamic teachings and risk undermining unity among Muslims.
Speaking at the presentation of instruments of appointment to 850 mosque nazirs and imams at Istana Alam Shah in Klang, His Royal Highness urged religious leaders and committee members to verify information before sharing it, stressing that slander is a grave sin that can lead to division and discord within the community.
In the same address, Sultan Sharafuddin firmly reiterated that mosques and suraus must remain completely free from partisan politics, emphasising that they are centres of worship, dakwah and unity, not platforms for political agendas.
He said he would not tolerate politicians or mosque officials using religious institutions for personal or political gain, and reminded nazirs and imams that their roles are sacred trusts, not positions to be contested.
The Sultan also called for strict transparency and integrity in managing mosque and surau funds, warning against misappropriation and insisting on regular financial reporting to uphold public trust and protect the sanctity of Islam.
