PUTRAJAYA, January 30 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will operate its Electric Train Service (ETS) around the clock during peak festive periods such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya.
By deploying its full train fleet and introducing non-scheduled services, including midnight trips, KTMB aims to increase capacity and frequency to meet the high demand from passengers preferring train travel over long drives.
Loke noted that this move maximises assets and ensures more passengers can purchase tickets, moving away from the previous cautious approach of keeping spare train sets on standby. On a separate note, Loke clarified that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will adhere to its original schedule, with operations expected to begin in January 2027.
He dismissed speculation of an earlier November start, explaining that critical system integration, inspections, and testing have yet to be completed, citing past projects like Aerotrain and LRT3 where software and system integration posed the greatest challenges.
