PUTRAJAYA, February 2 — The government has decided to withdraw the Urban Renewal Bill and table a revised version at a later date to allow more time for improvements, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the decision was made during the Cabinet meeting to incorporate feedback from Members of Parliament and other stakeholders, including input from Umno MPs that would require significant enhancements to the Bill.
Fahmi added that the move reflects the Cabinet’s intention to strengthen the legislation before it is reintroduced. The Bill’s second reading, initially scheduled for August 28 but not debated.
Has now been postponed during the current Parliament sitting following concerns and objections raised by MPs from Barisan Nasional and PKR.
