GEORGE TOWN, February 5 — A bush fire involving ferns and grass covering an estimated five hectares broke out at KM 1.9 of the Jeep Track on Penang Hill at about 5.45pm yesterday. Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) immediately alerted the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) Bagan Jermal.
With firefighting efforts supported by the Air Itam Bukit Bendera Volunteer Fire Brigade, while Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel assisted with ground coordination and safety. The fire was successfully brought under control under favourable weather conditions with no strong winds.
Preventing further spread, and nearby trees were not affected. Monitoring is ongoing to prevent re-ignition, as PHC urged the public to avoid speculation and sharing unverified information, especially during the current dry season, while expressing appreciation to all agencies, volunteers and local residents for their swift and coordinated response.
