GEORGE TOWN, February 6 — The Penang State Government has unveiled a comprehensive lineup of activities for Chinese New Year 2026, promising a vibrant mix of festive traditions and modern celebrations across both Penang Island and Seberang Perai.
From bustling night markets at Tow Boo Kong Temples in Butterworth to elaborately decorated shopping malls and streets lined with thousands of red lanterns, residents and visitors can enjoy immersive experiences that celebrate the city’s rich heritage and cultural diversity.
Signature highlights include temple fairs (Miao Hui) in George Town and Butterworth, the Worship of the Jade Emperor (Pai Thee Kong) ceremonies, and the centuries-old Flame Watching rituals at Ban Ka Lan Snake Temple and Tua Pek Kong Temple, symbolising peace and prosperity for the year ahead.
The celebrations will culminate in the Penang State Chap Goh Meh festivities, featuring high-pole lion dances, Mandarin orange tossing, Chingay performances, and grand fireworks displays. Beyond traditional rituals, Penang is also offering travel deals through Penang Global Tourism.
Providing accommodation, tours, and attraction packages to encourage longer stays and deeper exploration of the city’s vibrant offerings. With over 30 festive activities scheduled from late December 2025 to early March 2026. The Penang State Government invites visitors from Malaysia and abroad to immerse themselves in a culturally rich, joyous, and unforgettable start to the Year of the Fire Horse.
