BAYAN LEPAS, February 7 — Penang today marked a major milestone under the Penang Silicon Design @5KM+ (PSD@5KM+) initiative with the official opening of the Shared Lab for IC Design Validation & Characterisation and the onboarding of a second batch of technology collaborators.
Further strengthening the state’s semiconductor ecosystem. Coordinated by InvestPenang, the shared facility provides Penang-based IC design companies with access to advanced post-silicon validation equipment, expert support and a collaborative ESD environment. While new collaborators Oppstar Technology, X-FAB Sarawak, Contacthings and ElectroRent bring the total to 18 partners.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the initiative positions Penang as a fast-growing IC design hub, supporting high-value job creation, talent development and the long-term vision of producing “Made by Malaysia” chips designed and developed in Penang.
