GEORGE TOWN, February 8 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called for urgent action to resolve severe congestion at the international arrivals hall of Penang International Airport, warning that delays could harm the state’s image and tourism appeal.
He said there should be “no excuses” in addressing the issue, which he attributed to a sudden increase in international flights, closely scheduled arrivals, and an Immigration system that is not yet fully operational.
Speaking after the launch of the Nibong Tebal Festival 2026, Chow stressed that swift coordination by the relevant authorities is crucial, especially as Malaysia enters the Visit Malaysia 2026 period.
He cautioned that overcrowding scenes circulating on social media could undermine visitor confidence and urged immediate improvements to restore trust and safeguard Penang’s reputation as a key tourism destination.
