GEORGE TOWN, February 9 — Penang marked a significant milestone in its cruise tourism sector today with the inaugural call of the German luxury cruise liner AIDAdiva at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal, bringing nearly 2,000 passengers and 650 crew members to the island.
Penang Port Commission chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin said the maiden visit of the Sphinx-class vessel reflects growing international confidence in Penang as a cruise destination, providing a timely boost to the tourism economy as visitors explored George Town’s heritage attractions.
The arrival was celebrated with a Malaysian cultural dance performance, while the visit also opened doors for sustainable tourism collaboration, including proposed low-carbon cycling shore excursions developed with AIDA Cruises and Tourism Malaysia.
Positioning Penang as a distinctive and environmentally conscious port of call on the global cruise map.
