PUTRAJAYA, February 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government is not opposed to pig farming but stressed that such activities must not be carried out near residential areas to avoid health, hygiene and environmental concerns.

Speaking at the Ministry of National Unity’s monthly assembly, Anwar said communities should not be compelled to live close to pig farms, adding that operations should be relocated further away if they cause public unease, while reiterating respect for non-Muslims’ dietary practices.

He said mutual respect among communities is key to maintaining harmony, noting that issues can be resolved peacefully when guided by understanding, kindness and adherence to the law. His remarks come amid broader efforts by state governments.

Including Selangor, to centralise and modernise pig farming operations and relocate them away from residential areas following complaints over pollution and waste management.
