KUALA LUMPUR, February 11 — Malaysia’s targeted RON95 fuel subsidy under the BUDI Madani (BUDI95) initiative is expected to save at least RM2.5 billion in 2026, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced, attributing the savings to curbed subsidy leakages and crackdowns on smuggling syndicates.
He emphasized that consumers will continue to enjoy subsidised petrol seamlessly via cash, card, or e-wallet, with up to 300 litres per month per user, while fiscal savings are being channelled back to the rakyat through initiatives like the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme.
Which recently distributed RM100 to all 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above. Anwar noted that the digital BUDI95 system ensures efficient, safe subsidy distribution, and the government will continue enforcing measures against abuse while maintaining broad fuel subsidy coverage for all citizens.
