GEORGE TOWN, February 12 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has dismissed as inaccurate and misleading allegations that he removed Ng Yee Siang from consideration for a 2026 local council appointment, following claims raised by Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng.
In a statement at Komtar, Chow clarified that under the Local Government Act 1976, the State Authority makes council appointments based on nominations submitted by parties, and confirmed that the Penang DAP’s official list dated 15 December 2025 did not include Ng’s name for any local authority.
He added that the State Executive Council on 17 December 2025 approved appointments based on verified recommendations from the State Secretariat’s Local Government Division, stressing that official records clearly show Ng was never nominated and describing the allegations as baseless and potentially aimed at creating negative perceptions against the Chief Minister.
