GEORGE TOWN, February 12 — DAP Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has rejected claims that his remarks about David Ng Yee Siang being removed from the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) list could create negative perceptions of Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Lim clarified that Ng held no dissatisfaction toward Chow, as the decision to drop his name was made by Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim on behalf of the state party committee, with the Chief Minister merely formalising it under the Local Government Act 1976.
Lim stressed that the DAP Bagan Parliamentary Liaison Committee had unanimously supported Ng’s reappointment and submitted this in writing to Steven Sim, adding that it is inaccurate and misleading to suggest that Chow insisted on removing Ng’s name.
He emphasised that the official nomination and appointment process followed the law, and that Chow acted only on the verified recommendations from the State Secretariat’s Local Government Division.
The Chief Minister, in response, described allegations that he personally excluded Ng as baseless and warned they could be aimed at creating negative perceptions of his leadership. Official records indicate that Ng was not nominated in the DAP’s official list dated 15 December 2025.
And the State Executive Council subsequently approved appointments based on verified submissions.
