KUALA LUMPUR, February 12 — The Ministry of Works (KKR) has confirmed that the proposed Pan Island Link (PIL) project in Penang is currently at the preliminary stage, with a feasibility study approved under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
In a Dewan Rakyat reply to Batu Kawan MP Chow Kon Yeow, the ministry said procurement planning is underway for the appointment of a consultant to carry out traffic and land use studies for the project.
Meanwhile, early works for the upgrading of Jalan FT006 from Bayan Lepas to Teluk Kumbar (Section 20.00 to 23.00) in the Southwest District have also been approved up to the design stage under RP1 of RMK13.
The scope includes utility mapping, site investigations, consultant appointment, traffic studies, and social and environmental impact assessments (SIA and EIA). The final design will be refined by the Public Works Department (JKR).
With physical implementation subject to approval from central agencies and allocation of government funding.
