KUALA LUMPUR, February 12 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today emphasized that issues related to religion should not be politicized, warning that such actions could undermine national harmony, unity, and stability in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society.

Sultan Ibrahim stressed that the nation’s strength lies in mutual respect, tolerance, and adherence to the law, and that all citizens have a responsibility to uphold these values, particularly in matters concerning land use and the construction of places of worship.

He highlighted that the building of temples, mosques, churches, and other religious institutions must follow the same legal procedures and channels. Reflecting on his role in peacefully resolving a temple demolition issue in Johor in 2018.

Sultan Ibrahim urged all parties to respect the law and avoid actions or statements that could cause misunderstanding, tension, or public disorder. “Islam emphasizes mutual respect, and it does not prevent followers of other religions from practicing their beliefs.

While adherents of other faiths should also respect Islam,” he said, noting that such mutual understanding is vital to prevent conflicts and strengthen unity among Malaysians of diverse religions and cultures.

He called on all stakeholders to resolve disputes through legal and proper channels to maintain harmony, tolerance, and goodwill in the nation.
