KUALA LUMPUR, February 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki over allegations surrounding his shareholdings, urging critics to read Azam’s explanation before passing judgment.

Speaking after attending the 2026 ACCCIM Chinese New Year celebration, Anwar questioned calls for Azam’s removal, saying there was no basis to sack someone who is carrying out his duties responsibly. The controversy follows a Bloomberg report alleging Azam held shares worth about RM800,000.

In Velocity Capital Partner Bhd, purportedly breaching regulations for civil servants. Azam has maintained that the shares were properly declared to the Public Service Department in 2025 and disposed of within the same year.

A position supported in Parliament by Deputy Minister M. Kulasegaran, while Azam is expected to pursue legal action against the publication.
