PETALING JAYA, February 13 — Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has been sacked from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia(Bersatu) following a disciplinary board decision that found he breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution.
In a letter signed by disciplinary board chairman Radzi Manan, Hamzah was informed that his membership rights were revoked with immediate effect, though he may appeal within 14 days. Party secretary-general Azmin Ali confirmed the ruling.
Which comes amid an ongoing leadership tussle between Hamzah and party president Muhyiddin Yassin. The move drew criticism from Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who described the sacking as unsurprising and claimed Muhyiddin was “desperate” to retain power.
Alleging grassroots support remains with Hamzah. Bersatu Youth, however, defended the expulsions, urging members to uphold party discipline and warning that attempts to undermine stability amount to betrayal. The crisis has intensified internal divisions.
With several MPs previously expelled or suspended after backing calls for leadership change.
