GEORGE TOWN, February 13 – Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), together with Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd and supported by the Penang State Government, will once again provide a free shuttle service between KOMTAR and the Penang Hill Lower Station during the Chinese New Year celebration from Feb 16 to 19, 2026.
Operating daily from 9.00am to 9.00pm, the wheelchair-accessible shuttle will run eight round trips at 1.5-hour intervals, offering visitors a convenient and comfortable travel option. Passengers can board at KOMTAR’s Station 9 bus stop on Jalan Ria, with shuttle buses clearly marked “Penang Hill Free Shuttle” for easy identification.
Now in its fourth year since being introduced in 2023, the initiative aims to ease traffic congestion, enhance visitor experience and support Penang’s green mobility goals under the Penang2030 Vision. The service has recorded strong public response, with more than 10,000 passengers to date and an overall ridership growth of about 82%.
Including a 45.7% increase during Chinese New Year from 2024 to 2025. PHC encourages visitors to take advantage of the free shuttle service, while those unable to board due to capacity limits may use Rapid Penang Bus Route 204, which operates regularly at standard fares.
