PETALING JAYA, February 13 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari announced that the state will no longer issue new pig farming licences, with all existing pig farms, particularly in Tanjong Sepat, to be closed in stages.
The move follows Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s call to end pig farming in the state due to environmental concerns such as odour and water drainage issues, as well as Selangor’s limited land and multiracial demographic composition.
Going forward, Selangor’s pork supply will be fully imported, with licensing and approvals managed by the federal government.
Amirudin urged the public to avoid prolonging debates on the matter, emphasizing that the decision safeguards both the environment and social harmony among the state’s multiracial and multi-religious communities.
