GEORGE TOWN, February 14 — Kek Lok Si Temple, Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple in Ayer Itam, has come alive with a stunning display of lights and lanterns in celebration of the Chinese New Year, with nightly illuminations running from Feb 13 until Chap Goh Meh.
This year, horse-shaped lanterns mark the Year of the Fire Horse, symbolizing energy, independence, and speed, while thousands of multicoloured lights highlight the temple’s intricate architecture, attracting both locals and tourists eager to soak in the festive atmosphere.
The official lighting ceremony took place tonight, February 13 at 7.30 pm, led by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and attended by state leaders. Following prayers, a 10-minute fireworks display lit up the night sky, concluding the event and offering a vibrant, though brief, glimpse of festivity.
Visitors continue to flock to Kek Lok Si Temple to experience the illuminated spectacle and capture memorable photos of the temple’s dazzling decorations throughout the festive period.
