KUALA LUMPUR, February 16 — Kuala Lumpur police have allowed only ‘Happy Boom’ fireworks and ‘Pop-Pop’ firecrackers to be sold for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations, with city police chief Fadil Marsus saying the two types are permitted as they do not contain explosive materials that could endanger public safety.
He stressed that sellers must obtain permits from the respective district police headquarters and comply with stipulated specifications, warning that those found possessing, selling, buying or using unauthorised fireworks may face action under the Explosives Act 1957.
Which carries penalties of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a RM10,000 fine, or both, while also reminding the public not to set off fireworks after midnight to avoid disturbing public order and risking safety.
