KUALA LUMPUR, February 18 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today vowed that the government will work harder and implement better policies to ensure success for all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, as the nation ushers in the Year of the Horse.
Speaking at a Chinese New Year celebration organised by the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), he said the country’s strong economic growth reflects the resilience and confidence symbolised by the zodiac animal.
But stressed that progress requires unity, tolerance and collective effort. Citing the leadership of Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak, Anwar reminded Malaysians to confront differences together as one united society.
The prime minister, who was welcomed with lion dance performances and joined guests in tossing yee sang, also assured that the government would give special consideration to preserving the nearly century-old KLSCAH building along Jalan Maharajalela as a heritage site.
He said he had instructed Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh to work with the Kuala Lumpur mayor on a solution, adding that the government is committed to safeguarding the historic 1934 building for future generations.
