BAYAN LEPAS, February 18 — More than 10,000 people from diverse backgrounds gathered at the Setia SPICE Arena today for the Chinese New Year Open House hosted by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in a vibrant celebration of unity and togetherness.
Chow described the event as a resounding success, noting that attendance exceeded the initial 10,000-guest target and reflected strong community spirit. The celebration was graced by Ramli Ngah Talib and his consort, alongside state leaders and dignitaries.
As guests enjoyed lion dances, a Yee Sang tossing ceremony and performances by local talents including the 24 Festive Drums team from SMJK Phor Tay. Visitors, including locals and tourists, praised the open house for bringing people of all races together under one roof to share festive dishes and cultural performances.
Chow said the annual event highlights Penang’s longstanding tradition of harmony and serves as a model of multicultural unity for the nation, expressing hope that the state will continue fostering inclusivity and social stability in the years ahead.
