KLUANG, February 19 — The internal crisis within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) intensified today after 11 division heads in Johor announced their resignations, citing prolonged leadership turmoil and a loss of confidence in the party’s direction.
Pontian division chief Datuk Isa Ab Hamid, speaking on behalf of the group, said the resignations — involving divisions such as Johor Bahru, Mersing, Sembrong and Tanjung Piai — would effectively dissolve the affected branches.
He attributed the move to dissatisfaction over recent dismissals of senior leaders and elected representatives, and criticised party president Muhyiddin Yassin and Johor liaison chief Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal for failing to unite grassroots leaders ahead of the upcoming state election.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali rejected claims that certain divisions had been dissolved, insisting that only the party’s Supreme Council has the authority to do so under its constitution.
He described reports of dissolutions in several states as baseless and aimed at tarnishing the party’s image, adding that the council would take appropriate action. The crisis follows the recent sacking of multiple party leaders.
Including former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin and several MPs, further fuelling uncertainty within the party ranks.
