PETALING JAYA, February 21 — PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has urged police to focus their investigation on allegations that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki held shares in excess of permitted limits.

Rather than on the Bloomberg report that exposed the claims. She said investigations must centre on the substance of the allegations in line with transparency and accountability, stressing that authorities should not “shoot the messenger.”

Bukit Aman has launched a criminal defamation and internet misuse probe over the report, while Azam has denied any wrongdoing and reportedly seeks RM100 million in damages for alleged reputational harm.

Putrajaya has appointed Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar to lead a special task force to examine the matter, with its findings to be submitted to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and relevant authorities. While welcoming the formation of the committee.

Nurul Izzah expressed concern that its findings may not be made public and proposed that an independent panel reporting directly to Parliament be established, chaired by a respected and impartial figure with representation from multiple agencies to ensure transparency and public confidence.
