KUALA LUMPUR, February 22 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) has unanimously appointed Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as its new chairman with immediate effect, following an extraordinary supreme council meeting at PAS headquarters today.
The meeting approved the resignation of Muhyiddin Yassin as PN chairman, effective Jan 1, 2026, a decision endorsed by all top coalition leaders present, including Abdul Hadi Awang, Dominic Lau and P. Punithan.
In a joint statement dated Feb 22, the leaders confirmed that the council accepted Muhyiddin’s resignation and agreed to Samsuri’s appointment to helm the coalition. Samsuri, who is also PAS vice-president, takes over the post left vacant since the start of the year.
With coalition leaders expressing confidence that he will steer PN forward and strengthen its position ahead of the next general election. The meeting also addressed broader leadership matters, including future discussions on key positions within the coalition.
PN leaders said additional decisions would be finalised at upcoming supreme council meetings as the bloc moves to consolidate and reset its leadership structure.
