GEORGE TOWN, February 23 — Hundreds of homebuyers can finally look forward to relief after the Penang state government appointed Mah Sing Group to rescue the long-abandoned Sri Bayu and Quinton affordable housing projects in Balik Pulau.

Involving 625 units that were up to 80 per cent complete before construction stalled due to the original developer’s financial woes. Announcing the move at a signing ceremony today, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Mah Sing Berhad will finance the completion works.

With Baker Tilly Insolvency PLT appointed as liquidator, while Mah Sing CEO Datuk Voon Tin Yow expressed hope to complete both projects by year-end, although housing exco Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo cautioned that vandalism and theft at the sites could slow progress.

As affected buyers—many of whom have been servicing loans and paying rent for years—remain cautiously optimistic until they finally receive their keys.
