GEORGE TOWN, February 23 — Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) will conduct a three-month Public Inspection from Feb 24 to May 24, 2026, for the Revised Railway Scheme of the Penang LRT Mutiara Line.
Which now includes a cross-sea extension linking Penang Island and Seberang Perai. The proposed six-kilometer alignment will connect KOMTAR and Penang Sentral in an estimated eight-minute journey, strengthening mainland-island connectivity.
The revised plan follows the scaling down of the Penang South Reclamation project, resulting in the omission of 3.15km of track and three stations, while adding new stations at Penang Sentral and Bagan Luar, as well as a secondary depot at Tapak Pesta in Sungai Dua.
Spanning nearly 29.67km with 20 stations and two provisional stops, the LRT Mutiara Line began construction in 2025 and is slated for operations in December 2031. MRT Corp said inspection booths will be set up at key locations including KOMTAR, Penang Sentral and KTM Butterworth.
With project details also available online for public feedback in line with Section 85 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
