GEORGE TOWN, February 24 — Royal Malaysia Police in Penang have dismantled a drug processing and storage syndicate with the arrest of three local men and the seizure of syabu and heroin worth an estimated RM925,000.
Penang police chief Azizee Ismail said the suspects, aged between 37 and 58, were detained in coordinated raids between Feb 20 and 21 in Seberang Perai Utara and Barat Daya. Police confiscated 10,332 grammes of syabu and 8,032 grammes of heroin.
Along with caffeine, chemical liquids and drug processing equipment. The drugs seized are estimated to be sufficient for about 70,000 uses. Authorities also seized assets worth RM245,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
Including three cars, a motorcycle, jewellery and cash, bringing the total value of seizures to RM1.17 million. All three suspects tested negative for drugs, though one has a prior criminal record, and have been remanded for seven days until Feb 27.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
