KUALA LUMPUR, February 25 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh today defended the use of research and data-driven decision-making, stressing that leaders should not shy away from thorough studies when shaping public policy.
In a Facebook post shared in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day public holiday, she said higher education encourages critical examination of issues and careful analysis of data and facts, enabling policymakers to weigh pros and cons, avoid costly mistakes and make more convincing decisions.
Her remarks come amid debate over the ministry’s feasibility study on the possible introduction of elections for the Kuala Lumpur mayor, which has drawn mixed reactions. Yeoh said the study is intended to gather evidence and assess implications before any decision is made.
Adding that research sharpens judgment and wisdom—qualities she described as essential for leaders entrusted with public responsibility.
