KUALA LUMPUR, February 25 — A total of 17,609 rape cases were investigated nationwide between 2015 and 2025, with 7,090 cases brought to court, the Home Ministry said in a written reply in Parliament.
Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 3,392, followed by Johor (2,006), Sabah (1,817) and Kedah (1,465), while Perlis had the lowest at 275. The data was provided in response to a question from Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.
The ministry also addressed the case involving sexual assault survivor Loh Wai Mun, stating that no reinvestigation was carried out as the decision to amend the charge from rape under Section 376 to outraging modesty under Section 354.
Was made by the Attorney General based on the available evidence to ensure a higher probability of conviction. Police had initially conducted a thorough investigation before the Public Prosecutor exercised discretion to reduce the charge.
