PETALING JAYA, February 26 — The Malaysian government has strongly condemned the recent incident in which content showing the Quran being stepped on was posted on the social media platform Threads under the account ryandaselva.
Describing it as an offensive act that insults Islam and threatens the harmony of the nation’s multi-religious society. Minister of National Unity Aaron Ago Dagang urged the public to act responsibly and maturely on social media.
Emphasizing respect and tolerance, while the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been directed to investigate immediately under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, in coordination with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Authorities confirmed that the individual involved is a student of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, who has been detained for investigation. Aaron stressed that the government will take uncompromising action on issues involving religious and racial sensitivities.
Including potential disciplinary measures under the university’s student regulations. He also called on the public to stop spreading hateful or irresponsible content online, noting that Malaysia’s religious diversity is a national asset that must be preserved, not exploited.
