PETALING JAYA, February 27 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has called for PAS to move beyond a supporting role in the coalition, highlighting the party’s growing parliamentary strength.

Speaking on the Lebih Masa podcast, Samsuri noted that PAS won 43 seats in the 2022 general election, surpassing all other parties in Parliament for the first time. “The time has arrived for us to play a more prominent role… PAS has the largest composition of MPs and assemblymen,” he said.

Adding that the party can no longer be satisfied with being a “village champion” if it wants influence at state and federal levels. Samsuri, also Terengganu menteri besar, stressed that PAS must engage with Malaysia’s multiracial society, including non-Muslims and voters in Sabah and Sarawak.

To succeed nationally. He said the party has strategies to navigate the country’s complex political landscape while being more open and visible. Samsuri was appointed PN chairman on Sunday following Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation.

Amid speculation that PN’s non-Malay components were initially reluctant to see PAS hold the coalition chairmanship.
