GEORGE TOWN, March 4 — Fahmi Zainol has appealed against his suspension from all party positions by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), arguing that his ex officio seat in the Penang PKR chapter should remain as he continues to serve as Pantai Jerejak assemblyman and state executive councillor.
In a letter to secretary-general Fuziah Salleh, Fahmi questioned the legal basis of suspending him solely due to a pending court charge, warning it could set a troubling precedent. Fahmi, who has pleaded not guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife.
Said he had yet to receive an official suspension letter but filed the appeal to ensure due process. PKR announced the suspension on March 1 pending the outcome of his case. Fuziah confirmed receiving his appeal and said the party would respond accordingly.
