BAYAN LEPAS, March 5 — Singapore-based semiconductor firm Hanic announced its expansion into Penang with the establishment of a state-of-the-art Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and Advanced Packaging Design hub, supported by InvestPenang.
The move reinforced Penang’s reputation as the “Silicon Valley of the East” and aligned with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy. The new centre focused on AI-driven chip architectures and next-generation heterogeneous integration.
Offering seamless front-end and back-end design solutions to accelerate time-to-market for global customers. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the investment strengthened the state’s push into next-generation technologies through initiatives such as Penang Silicon Design @5KM+.
Hanic General Manager Dr Oh Ser Wah added that the expansion built on Penang’s strong manufacturing ecosystem. The hub was expected to create over 60 high-value engineering jobs across digital and analog design, verification, physical design and advanced 2.5D/3D packaging.
