PUTRAJAYA, March 5 — Fahmi Fadzil said no action has been taken against eight government-supporting MPs who were absent during the vote on the proposed 10-year prime ministerial term limit.
He said Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof informed the Cabinet that two MPs had submitted formal explanations, while six have yet to do so.
The matter has been referred to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for further decision. On Monday, the Dewan Rakyat failed to pass the Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Seeking to limit the prime minister’s tenure to 10 years after securing 146 votes, two short of the required two-thirds majority. Eight government-aligned MPs were absent during the vote.
