GEORGE TOWN, March 7 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has defended the state’s new land tax structure, stating that the revised rates are calculated based on four key criteria: land classification, land size, current land use, and the applicable rate.
Responding to issues raised by Bagan MP and Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, he said the state government continues to monitor concerns from affected landowners and will refine implementation guidelines where necessary.
Chow added that decisions on land tax appeals submitted to district and land offices will be announced after the next State Executive Council meeting. He also clarified that all government and private schools in Penang will be charged a nominal land tax rate of RM50 per lot.
Landowners and elected representatives were encouraged to consult their respective district land offices to obtain clarification and submit appeals if needed.
