The initiative makes CelcomDigi the first telco in Malaysia to offer network-based phone number verification via Google’s Firebase platform, allowing users to verify their mobile numbers instantly without SMS one-time passwords.
Significantly reducing friction and exposure to scams, phishing and OTP interception across digital services such as banking, e-commerce and ride-hailing. By replacing SMS-based authentication with API-led verification anchored on trusted mobile networks and cloud-native scalability.
The collaboration strengthens digital trust while empowering developers and enterprises to build more secure, reliable and cost-efficient onboarding experiences. CelcomDigi said the move advances its API ecosystem and supports Malaysia’s digital economy by enabling faster user verification.
