GEORGE TOWN, March 10 – The Penang state government is prioritising land acquisition and the resettlement of residents affected by the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said today.
Works at the project sites are progressing smoothly according to schedule, with the state government responsible for handling relocation issues, while engineering and contractual matters are managed by the Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) and its appointed contractors.
Chow noted that only about 12 houses in the Sungai Dua area are involved in the relocation process, as the line passes through a small village near the Road Transport Department office. The RM16 billion Mutiara Line, which began construction in 2025.
Will span 29.67 kilometres with 20 stations and two provisional stations, connecting Penang Island and the mainland. Scheduled for completion in December 2031, the project aims to improve connectivity, reduce road congestion.
And enhance accessibility across the state, marking a key step in Penang’s long-term urban mobility plans.
