GEORGE TOWN, March 10 – The Penang Hill Funicular Service will be temporarily closed from June 8 to June 14, 2026, for its second bi-annual scheduled maintenance.
Services are expected to resume on June 15. The maintenance is conducted by Penang Hill Corporation under the supervision of engineers from the funicular manufacturer.
Garaventa AG of Switzerland, to ensure the system remains safe and operates at optimal performance. The maintenance works will include replacing the coach bogie and air-conditioning cooling coil, along with routine system checks.
During the closure period, visitors can reach the summit via jeep services operated by the Penang Hill Jeep Service Association or by using existing hiking trails leading up to Penang Hill.
