GEORGE TOWN, March 12 – Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer has urged Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to cancel the proposed Karpal Singh Drive coastal reclamation project after it failed to secure Environmental Impact Assessment approval.
Rayer said the developer had been given until February 26 to obtain the necessary approvals, and the project should now be shelved as promised. The project’s EIA application has reportedly been rejected four times by the Department of Environment since 2024.
Rayer also called on the state government to gazette the Middle Bank as a marine sanctuary while ensuring the safe rehabilitation of the Jelutong landfill.
