GEORGE TOWN, March 12 – The Penang government will proceed with its official Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house jointly hosted with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, but the celebration will be held on a modest scale.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the annual event has always been conducted simply and serves as a tradition for state leaders to engage with the public while sharing local festive dishes.
Chow added that government departments and agencies have been advised to organise internal Aidilfitri celebrations modestly and avoid excessive spending.
Community-level open houses organised by elected representatives and Village Community Management Councils can still be held.
As such events help strengthen community ties and promote unity among people of different backgrounds during the festive season.
