HULU LANGAT, March 15 — Malaysia spends RM64.3 billion a year treating non-communicable diseases (NCDs), surpassing the Health Ministry’s 2026 allocation of RM46.52 billion.
Prompting a shift from a treatment-centric “sick care” model to prevention and public empowerment, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said today.
He highlighted a worrying 10.2 per cent cumulative rise in diabetes cases in Hulu Langat over the past two years, stressing the need for stronger health literacy and behavioural change.
As reflected by the Wellness Hub initiative, which supports preventive care, nutrition, healthy ageing and early-life interventions, with more than two million users nationwide across 38 hubs.
