GEORGE TOWN, March 15 – The Penang state government has announced the opening of the Phase 2 parking facility at Gurney Bay as part of its ongoing development of the 101-acre waterfront recreational park.
State executive councillor for Local Government and Town and Country Planning, H’ng Mooi Lye, said the project is being developed in phases to provide world-class public recreational spaces for residents and visitors.
Phase 1, covering 27 acres, was completed and opened to the public on Feb 4, 2024, while Phase 2 has reached 99.06% completion and is expected to be fully completed this year.
Phase 3 is currently under development and scheduled for completion in 2027. To improve visitor convenience, the state government has provided a total of 813 parking bays across the development, including 143 parking spaces in Phase 2 located in front of the Bali Hai Restaurant.
The Phase 2 parking area will be open to the public free of charge from March 18 until April 30, 2026. Starting May 1, parking fees will be introduced, with rates currently under review by the Penang Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI).
The government expects Gurney Bay to become a major seaside recreational and tourism destination once fully completed.
