SEBERANG PERAI, March 15 – Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has launched Penang’s first Shopee Self-Collection Point operating at a cooperative premises at Politeknik Seberang Perai.
The initiative introduces a new role for cooperatives within the e-commerce logistics ecosystem, allowing customers to collect Shopee parcels at designated cooperative locations.
The project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia, ANGKASA, Shopee Malaysia and logistics partner SPX Express.
The ministry aims to establish at least 100 cooperative-based Shopee Self-Collection Points nationwide by the end of 2026 to expand digital economy participation, including in rural areas.
Currently, 25 cooperative premises across Malaysia, including two in Penang, have joined the programme.
Qhile 61 more cooperatives have expressed interest and are undergoing screening. Penang alone has 819 cooperatives with more than 171,000 members and assets worth RM1.29 billion.
