KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 – Malaysia will respond to a United States investigation into allegations of structural excess production capacity and forced labour practices.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani said having excess capacity does not mean Malaysian exporters are dumping products in the US market.
He explained that dumping occurs only when goods are sold abroad at prices lower than those in the country of origin.
Johari said Malaysia is prepared to demonstrate transparency by comparing domestic prices with export prices.
He also stressed that Malaysia has clear labour laws to protect workers and prevent exploitation. According to him, practices such as paying below the minimum wage.
Hiring workers without valid permits, or employing underage workers are strictly prohibited under Malaysian law.
