PUTRAJAYA, March 17 — The Transport Ministry has announced new guidelines clarifying the use of pick-up trucks and de-controlled vehicles for transporting goods, effective April 1, 2026.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said goods vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 7,500kg are classified as de-controlled vehicles.

And may be used by owners or companies to transport their own business goods without requiring an operator’s permit from the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

However, Loke stressed that vehicles used to transport goods belonging to third parties for hire or payment will be considered a commercial goods transport service and must obtain a Class A Carrier Permit under the Land Public Transport Act 2010.

Private pick-up truck owners may still transport their own goods, provided they comply with safety limits and load restrictions to ensure road safety.
